"A little over three years ago I suffered a cardiac arrest while exercising at the YMCA. My heart went into Ventricular Fibrillation and had stopped beating. Overview

Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute believes that support groups play an important role in patient recovery. The opportunity to communicate and connect with other people with similar experiences provides not only information, but also a sense of hope, a forum to 'vent,' and the chance to feel that you are not alone. Support groups also provide an opportunity to help others and share their experiences.

Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute is proud to sponsor several support groups for our patients:

Levine Cardiac Kids is a group that supports children who are being treated for, or have recently been diagnosed with, Congenital Heart Defects (CHD) and their families. Click here to learn more about this program.

The ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) Support Group is a support group for ICD recipients, their families and friends in the greater Charlotte area. Sponsored by Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute and the major ICD device manufacturers, the ICD Support Group offers a forum for education and a network for support. The Heart of a Woman Support Group is a joint effort between Sanger Heart & Vascular Institute and Carolinas Healthcare System. Our goal is to unite women who have survived a cardiac event with women striving to prevent similar experiences. Through education, sharing of information and encouragement, all participants are empowered with the knowledge required to begin or maintain a heart healthy lifestyle.
