About Sanger: History

Dr. Joel Webster came to Charlotte and to Mercy Hospital from Ohio's Cleveland Clinic in 1973 where he partnered with Dr. Ravi Rao to found Charlotte Cardiology Associates. They added to their numbers in 1985 when Dr. Scott Valeri joined the practice. Following the departure of a fourth partner and the subsequent opening of two satellite offices in Pineville and Monroe during 1990/1991, the practice invited two additional physicians, Drs. William Bock and Martin Kreshon, to join the group. Shortly afterwards, Drs. Anthony Bracken and Richard Shugoll were added. As the Albemarle facility was brought on line in 1994, Dr. Richard Jacoby came on board. By 1995, CCA had eight physicians and over 38 staff members.

With the addition of the Lake Norman/Cornelius office in 1995, two more physicians were recruited, Drs. Werner Bloos and Alan Micklin. During 1997, an additional physician, Dr. Nicholas Matas, was added and allocated to the Albemarle location. The practice continued to flourish, and a Lancaster, SC office was added along with two new physicians for the Southern rotation, Drs. Scott Dawson and Sander Van Cleeff. As the Monroe office continued to grow, Dr. James Roberts was invited to join the staff.

In 1998, the Charlotte office expanded to a new location on Sharon Amity Road. During 1999, Dr. Dominique Falewee was recruited, which brought the numbers to 14 physicians and over 85 staff members. During the next five years, the Monroe office was enlarged, and the Pineville, Lake Norman and Albemarle offices were relocated to gain more space. Additional echo equipment and four additional nuclear cameras were procured, as well as adding two additional physicians, Drs. Liu and Levinsky.

In the fall of 2007, Charlotte Cardiology became part of Carolinas HealthCare System, the largest hospital system in the Carolinas and the fourth largest hospital in the nation. CCA has had a longstanding relationship with the hospital. The integration of the two institutions will allow the combination of resources to reach new levels of effectiveness in pioneering techniques and treatments in the fast-changing area of heart disease.

Charlotte Cardiology has certainly changed a lot over the last 35 years. But some things will never change-our commitment to being at the forefront of new techniques and procedures, our commitment to the communities where we live and practice, and above all our commitment to compassionate patient care. We are proud of our history, but our eyes are firmly fixed on the future-- providing the Carolinas simply the best, most comprehensive cardiovascular care possible.

"The physical merging of the Sanger Clinic and Charlotte Cardiology Associates Pineville offices into one combined new office has fostered greater collegiality among the physicians involved, enhanced patient care via peer to peer conference/consultation and enabled more efficient overall office staff performance."
